Age-Friendly Initiative

“This country will not be a good place for any of us to live in unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in.” –Theodore Roosevelt

Licking County Aging Partners (LCAP) is helping to lead the way to bring positive change in what aging can look like in Licking County. In May 2023, supported by a letter from the Licking County Commissioners, Licking County joined 25 other cities and counties in Ohio, in an effort to become Age-Friendly. Licking County has pledged its support towards becoming a Livable Community, joining the AARP network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. Membership in the AARP Network means that a community’s elected leadership has made a commitment to actively work with residents and local advocates to make their town, city, county, or state an age-friendly place to live.

Becoming a member of this network establishes Licking County’s commitment towards becoming age friendly. This commitment includes an assessment process and cycle of continuous improvement. People of all ages benefit from the adoption of policies and programs that make neighborhoods walkable, feature transportation options, enable access to key services, provide opportunities to participate in community activities, and support housing that’s affordable and adaptable. Well-designed, age-friendly communities foster economic growth and make for happier, healthier residents of all ages.

It is our desire to see older adults grow, age, and live their life to the fullest. If you are interested in helping with this Age-Friendly Initiative, please email Kim Hosler or call (740) 345-0821.

The Age-Friendly Network

The AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities network helps local leaders meet the needs of their community’s older adults and prepare for the rapid aging of the U.S. population. (By 2034, America will have more adults age 65 or older than children under 18.) Membership provides elected officials, policymakers and community volunteers with peer support and access to experts and best practices. Learn more…
